Her secret is unraveling. One dangerous quest could end it all...

Rie thought she was an ordinary human. After she’s named heir to Sanyaro, the truthseeker and mediator of the nine faerie realms, life becomes a lot more complicated. As she struggles to control her magics, Rie nearly falls prey to a brutal assassination attempt during a public ceremony.

Blamed for the chaos, Rie’s escort, Prince Daenor, is taken prisoner. While Sanyaro tempers the political flames, Rie must once again chase after the truth. As if the threat of another great war and the impending death of her lover weren’t enough, Rie uncovers a dark secret that threatens to crack the very foundations of the faerie realms. When allies fall, can Rie overcome the odds… and the opposition?

Sanyare The Heir Apparent is a captivating dark fantasy adventure novel. If you enjoy thrilling adventures across nine unique realms filled with wise-cracking carnivorous pixies, then you’ll love the second installment of The Sanyare Chronicles from Megan Haskell.

Sanyare The Heir Apparent The Sanyare Chronicles Book 2 eBook Megan Haskell

The second book of a trilogy often sags, as the characters simply continue the quest from the previous book but haven't gotten to the exciting climax of the next book. Haskell avoids that here by quickly plunging the characters into an even worse situation than they were in before, raising the stakes considerably, and setting Rie a "ticking clock" which means she'd better solve this problem fast, or else! We see more of some of the characters from the first book, and meet many more allies and enemies. The action is fast-paced and the danger just gets worse and worse.

Rie is trying to understand her new roles and responsibilities, too, which is an additional challenge. I like that we see how hard Rie has to work to learn her new skills, and that she's not always successful. I hate the old trope of the "chosen one" who is suddenly brilliant at everything.

There were a few places where the characters made terrible decisions and I didn't quite see the rationale (especially at the ending). But at least they're being punished for their own mistakes and not by random events. Plus I like that the bad guys pick up on this and interpret these actions in the worst possible way, turning everyone else against our protagonists.

We also get to see more of the universe in this book, including meeting more types of fae and adventuring into new realms. Haskell blends many classic fantasy species and myths into her universe, so there's an old favorite here for just about everyone.

This book didn't feel quite as tight as the first one, but that's pretty common with trilogies, and the good outweighs the minor flaws, I'd say. It's a fast, fun read, full of dangerous action scenes and twists that kept me page-turning to the end -- and wanting to read the next book right away!

Sanyare The Heir Apparent The Sanyare Chronicles Book 2 eBook Megan Haskell Reviews

Really loved this book. Was home sick and read all day. Couldn't put it down. I especially liked the diverse descriptions of all the realms that Rie visited while trying to find her clues. I think my favorite realm was the Daemon Realm. The floating island idea is pretty cool. I was a bit confused as to why all of a sudden Rie didn't have her magical abilities. Why were they so strong in the first book but then abandoned her in the second? In spite of that, I cheered with each of her accomplishments. Also, King Othin is one of those characters that you love to hate, like Voldemort! Looking forward to book 3!!!
I love this book! Totally worth the read. The second in the series and it's better than the first, though I loved the first also. Haskell's a really good writer and I love how her main character Rie develops. Strong, intriguing, kickass, heart-wrenching. Highly recommend.
The rich and varied world created by Megan Haskell expands nicely in this, the second full-length novel. Rie's difficulties in doing what we and those to whom she reports expect of her and her resulting doubts are the main focus this time around. Haskell also introduces several new, strong characters and does much to fill in important details about how the various 'races' and places interact. There's plenty of confusion (intended), intrigue and some heartache too ) Makes this reader ready for the next book!
The Heir Apparent is the second book of two (not counting the Pixie Tamer). Fantasy, adventure with every kind of creature from vampires and elves to mermaids and pixies. I flew the books because I had difficulty putting them down! The stories have interesting characters and surprises at every turn. They are well-developed and a great adventure-story-with-a-strong female kick-butt lead read for both adults and YA alike. Sprinkled with a little romance and intrigue. I liked them so much I signed up for the author's email updates in anticipation of her next 3rd installment to the series coming soon. Can't wait!
After reading the first book I had high hopes for the second one. But it failed so badly. Rie turned into a whiney know it all that failed epically. The plot was fantastic but Rie really just ruined the book for me. 3 stars for a decent plot but that's being generous
Rie and Daenor Attend a ball in her honor knowing it is some kind of trap. When assassins try to kill her, she is saved by Daenor, but the 3 are killed immediately by his sister that has been removed as heir to his shadow kingdom. She escapes and Daenor is held as a political prisoner until Rie can prove he had nothing to do with the deaths. As she races through the realms to catch her, she is aided by a friend/betrayer and a mythical animal. Deception goes further than a soul stealer. Political machinations, her powers are erratic, and very few want her to take up the mantle of Sanyare because she is human, not fae. The treaty is in jeopardy, there is a underground revolt to take out the leaders of all the realms. No one will listen. Escape is the only answer.
Loved book one and was anxious to read the next installment in this excellent series. I love this series, and the books never seem long enough-- sigh. Some good progression on the overall story line, but there is still more to come-- and I can't wait. This installment of the Sanyare Chronicles explores Rie's doubts about her worthiness to Apprentice to the Sanyaro. After a century under the High Elves' thumb, Rie finds herself having trouble manifesting her (proven) powers. Book two seems to explore how self-doubt can prevent us from growing into our potential. Another wonderful story in this series, and I'll be eagerly awaiting book three.
